About the event
Double role tango retreat is intended for everyone who wants to develop their skills in both dance roles of Argentine tango. Participation requires basic skills as either a leader or a follower, as well as some experience dancing in the other role. You can also be an experienced double role dancer or an advanced tanguera/-o in one role, expanding your skills towards the other role.
We will go through the structure and basic elements of tango, but a little deeper than the surface. We'll explore walking, pivoting, giro, leading and following, and especially the connection with the dance partner. We'll first apply what we have learned to simple step patterns and then vary & combine them as far as imagination and curiosity allow.
Those who have danced tango only for a short time can easily stick to the basic patterns and strengthen their skills in them.
The course content will be tailored to the participants' skill level and goals – so everyone is guaranteed both suitable challenges and feelings of success!
Teachers
Saana Kalliokoski is an Alexander Technique teacher with extensive experience in dancing Argentine tango in both roles. Saana is also a physiotherapist and social dance instructor, with professional studies in dance and movement therapy.
Saana's special interest and core competence are the naturalness of movement, contact between the dancing partners, communication and presence. What do such elements enable when the goal is to dance sensitively, accurately and skillfully? How to do easily that what may seem difficult?
Saana's assistant is Pauli Järvelä. He's been dancing tango for almost 20 years, the last ten of which also as a follower. Pauli is an experienced and well-respected assisting teacher who applies, for example, the Alexander Technique and his strong background in Chinese martial arts in his approach.
