About the event
Helsinki Milonga Weekend = HMW is a cosy and warm-hearted event consisting of a series of milongas, organised by the Finnish Argentine tango association Amigos del Tango. No classes, shows or other kind of hustle – just dancing in a relaxed atmosphere.
The event is very affordable (65€ for a milonga pass for foreigners) and we can help you with accommodation hints if needed.
Please check all infos, schedule etc. at the HMW main event page.
In Helsinki we already have a good amount of double role and some queer tango dancers. We'd also like to welcome visitors from abroad, to bring some ✨ Light in Darkness ✨ spirit to this event! 🎆 🌈
’HMW goes queer’ side programme
To help you know the city and socialise a bit more during your visit, we’ve planned some shared activities that can be organised if there is interest. So please let us know what you'd like to do! Here are some suggestions:
Thursday 26 November
18~20 — Dinner: At Mari’s Treehouse, a restaurant serving Finnish seasonal food. It is situated in Mall of Tripla by Pasila train station, only a short walk to the milonga (starting at 20).
Friday 27 November
🕚 11~14 — Tango flash mob + sightseeing:
We could meet at the public library Oodi to dance a few songs in the lobby and look around in this architectonically interesting building. There’s a café on the top floor and a restaurant serving Finnish lunch (salmon soup!).
🕚 11~14 — Museum visit + sightseeing:
For example Architecture & Design Museum has some interesting exhibitions: Aalto Design, Tove Jansson's Moominvalley & Craft Punk by Juha Vehmaanperä. Ticket 23 €
🕚 Just sightseeing/hanging out in a good company, why not?
🕐 14~16 — Sauna + swim: You may vote from these options:
A. Allas Pool, an outdoor swimming pool right in the middle of the city, by the sea. A few electric saunas, a +27 degree outdoor swimming pool and a colder seawater pool. Ticket 19 €
B. Löyly, a fancy urban sauna oasis by the sea. Two wood-heated saunas, one of which is a traditional style smoke sauna, and stairs to let you dip yourself in the cold sea. Ticket 29 €, pre-booking needed.
C. Kotiharjun Sauna, the only remaining old style wood-heated block sauna in Helsinki. Unfortunately no swimming possibility but the tradition is to sit by the street almost naked, watching the passers-by and cooling down. Ticket 16 €
D. Sompasauna, a unique DIY sauna on an island that was built and still is maintained by a group of volunteers. No staff, showers, service or storage lockers – you’ll need an open mind for this adventure! (We can co-ordinate to take care of our belongings.) Dip in the cold sea & get a truly exotic Finland experience. Free of charge.
🕓 16~18 — After sauna meal: Hot pizza for example?
(The evening milonga starts at 19)
(Saturday and Sunday are full of milonga time!)
You may fill in this form to tell us which part(s) of the programme you would be interested in, and vote for which sauna you’d rather visit. We can organise activities according to interest. For questions and suggestions please email doublerole@tango.fi Helsinki is always worth a visit; welcome!! ❤️
